Boy cries when asked if he'll miss his mom at school

This little boy’s first day of school got off to a rough start.

A Los Angeles boy burst into tears when a reporter asked him if he would miss his mom just before he started pre-kindergarten on Tuesday.

Andrew Macias, 4, first answered “no” and laughed a little bit about it in a report by KTLA-TV. The boy had his backpack on and his hair combed for the big day at City Terrace Elementary School in East L.A.

But his chuckles turned to sobs, and the tike buried his head in his hands moments later. Andrew’s mother hugged the crying boy off camera to console him before sending him on his way with the other children, according to the TV station.

“I feel awful about that little boy, but I’m a mom,” the reporter, Courtney Friel, said afterward. “I have a 3- and 4-year-old, so I’m going to go through that too. It’s just part of the process, right?”
